Pilates and Movement

Pilates is a method of fitness training, developed originally by Joseph Pilates between 1920 and 1967. Pilates is beneficial to all: from young to old, professional sportspeople, those not used to exercising and to those who want to achieve a state of positive health and wellbeing.

Pilates exercises strengthen the body from the inside, toning the muscles of the inner abdomen, pelvic floor and back especially. At the same time the overworked, tight muscles of the body are encouraged to release and lengthen.

The Anne Andenaes-method makes the exercises and sequences as natural as possible using body weight and gravity as resistance. Breathing, rhythm and coordination are integrated into the movements. Her method aims at combining natural movement with mental focus so the effect corresponds to tuning a fine instrument.
